Queens M2 pupils are working through the design process to design and build birdhouses. They began by identifying a need for birdhouses and discussed what factors need to be considered before designing can begin.
Pupils investigated the various types of woods (hardwoods, softwoods and manufactured boards) and plastics (thermosetting and thermoplastics) and produced a presentation based on their findings.
Students drew their initial design ideas, learned how to draw three dimensionally with isometric views, add rendering according to the light source and finally put their gained knowledge together to develop final design ideas. They used Google Sketchup; a CAD software program to design their birdhouses three dimensionally using laptops.
